Pagan Altar – Rising of the Dark Lord

Pagan altar’s best song. Pagan altar is an insanely underated doom metal band from the NWOBHM era.

Be My Friend – www.myspace.com Pagan Origin of Days of the Week, Word Etiology Many of the names of the days of the week in English are come from Norse and Germanic gods and the goddess of love; Thor, Odin, Fryia & Tyr. @NSTM666 What, is itunes suddenly pirating or something? I’ve found PA’s previous album for download on some of the band’s own websites/music pages, but I haven’t found this one. When I find a band I like, I have no problem supporting them with my money; Pagan Altar clearly deserves it. Obviously you feel the same. Do you know where I can download this album *from the band* on the internet?

    @Necrosparkles I am of the opinion that you can just kick back and enjoy the tunes rather then be a pretentious prick and call people out for no reason. Now I am not going to call you dumb, because clearly you show signs of intelligence by listening to a killer band like this. Just don’t be a fucking asshole dude seriously.

    Where can I download this album?! I must have it!!!

    @DoomMetalSludge You know you’re dumb, right? You don’t seem to understand what I said before… I never said they didn’t sound like Black Sabbath, they clearly do. And I wasn’t hounding you because you compared them to a mainstream band. Everyone on every fucking YouTube video sits around and comments on all the bands they think the video sounds like. Who fucking cares, a 3rd grader could tell you this sounds like Black Sabbath.

    Aug 21, 2011

    @Necrosparkles And by the way, even though this music is pretty unique on its own, anyone who denies the fact that this doesn’t sound like Black Sabbath is extremely stupid.

    @Necrosparkles When I had heard the song for the first time exactly one year ago, that was my initial reaction. I have since listened to Pagan Altar albums a lot and I now know that they have their own defining sound. Hounding on me for comparing them to mainstream contemporaries is simply stupid because people who are just introduced to these bands will naturally compare them to more popular bands they have heard before.

    @DoomMetalSludge What the hell is wrong with all you idiots? Why do you find the need to post all the bands you think it sounds like? It’s fucking Pagan Altar, that’s it. Stop trying to pretend to be so damn smart and define it using other bands.

    The English days of the week are named after the Anglo-Saxon gods, not the Norse gods (even hough they’re analogous). So, not Tyr but Tiw, not Odin but Woden, not Thor but Thunor and not Freyja but Frigga. I’m guessing this woman doesn’t know a thing about Old English or Old Norse and so she should really just stfu and stop spread misinformation.

    @charlene615
    Yeah, Roman religion and all other sun deities I know of are generally male, while the moon is female. In the Norse faith it’s the other way around. The sun is a female while the moon is male. Sól and Máni. :)

  41. charlene615
    Aug 21, 2011

    @coregoon That’s interesting because everything I have read referred to the sun as a male solar deity. Sol invictus..day of the invincible sun. I will have to check more into it and thanks for the reply.

    @charlene615
    Technically there’s two. Sunday, the first day of the week, is name after the goddess Sól (aka the sun). ;-)
